Danish Cancer Society researchers studied 2,800 Danish women who received silicone breast implants for 30 years, from
1973 and 1995, and are stating that the risk of cancer is lower among women who have silicone breast implants than
women who have never had silicone breast implants.
According to Dr. Soren Friis, lead researcher, "Few
studies had looked at
breast cancer risk beyond the 15-year mark, or at the risk of tumors in sites other than the
breast. Our current results support the conclusions of recent expert review committees that silicone breast implants
are not associated with an excess risk of breast or other cancers." The researchers speculate women who have
silicone breast implants are generally at less risk of
breast cancer because, compared to other women, women with
silicone breast implants tended to be thinner and have more pregnancies. Pause. Deep breath. Okay. Your thoughts?
