Saab might not be getting a roadster based on the Pontiac
Solstice, but a sports car just might be in the works. Scheduled for a Geneva showing is a fwd two-seater based on
the old 60s-era
Saab Sonnett with a 250 hp V-6 engine.
Also possibly in the works is the
Saab 9-4x, a small SUV like the
BMW X3 that might share a platform with a small
Cadillac SUV. No date for production has been set by
Saab; however, industry best guesses mark it down for the 2009
model year. The small SUV is said to be
Saab’s backup plan now that the
Subaru B9 Tribeca is no longer fair game for a
Saab derivation.
The addition of a sports car and small SUV is part of the brand’s attempt to diversify and offer more models. A
decision about production of the Sonnett-inspired sports car will depend on consumer reaction to the concept slated for
Geneva.
