Jaguar took a major step to regaining its image as a leader in the market for luxury sports cars, with
the completion of the first production XK, shown above alongside another seminal
Jaguar, the D-type.
The car rolled off the line this morning at
Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich plant, also the site for XJ and S-type production,
much to the delight of
Jaguar management and staff.
Jaguar’s Managing Director, Bibiana Boerio, said that, “The launch
of a new
Jaguar sports car creates momentum, excitement and a buzz that marks an historic step in the company’s
revitalisation plans.”
The company has made a significant investment in facilities and equipment to build the aluminum body-structure of the
new car, on top of the previous investment in tooling for the aluminum-bodied XJ. It’s safe to say that
Jaguar’s
near-term fortunes will rise or fall on the success of the XK.
